Whole-home backup power for Charlotte homeowners

A standby generator keeps your home running through Charlotte's storms, ice events, and grid outages automatically, whether you are home or away. As Charlotte's only Generac Power Pro Premier Dealer, Power Source sizes, installs, and maintains whole-home and essential-circuit systems for homeowners across the metro area.

Why Charlotte Homeowners Choose Power Source

Turnkey Installation

We manage the whole project under one roof: the in-home consultation, sizing, gas connection, electrical work, the concrete pad, permits, the county inspection, and final startup. You make one call and we handle the rest.

A Generator Specialist, Not Just an Electrician

A standby generator is a complex system. Because we focus on generators specifically, from load sizing and fuel to the transfer switch and placement, the install is done right the first time and your manufacturer warranty stays intact. Every crew still includes a licensed electrician, and the same salesperson stays with you from the first consultation through final startup.

Charlotte's Only Generac Power Pro Premier Dealer

We have held Generac's top dealer designation since 2019, a level reached by only a small fraction of dealers nationwide. Our technicians are Protector Plus certified, the highest service tier Generac offers, and we keep Generac parts in stock for fast service.

What a Standby Generator Does

Unlike a portable generator you have to drag out and refuel, a standby generator is permanently installed beside your home and wired into your electrical panel. It runs on natural gas or propane and starts on its own within seconds of an outage, then shuts down when utility power returns. There are no cords to run and nothing to start by hand.

Whole-Home or Essential Circuits

The right size depends on what you want to keep running and the electrical load of your home. During the consultation we help you decide between covering essential circuits and powering the whole house.

  • Essential-circuit systems (around 14kW) keep the things that matter most online: heating and cooling, the refrigerator, well pump, sump pump, and key outlets and lights.
  • Whole-home systems (22kW and larger) run nearly everything at once, so an outage feels like a non-event.

Our Installation Process

  1. In-Home Consultation - We assess your electrical panel, fuel supply, and the best placement, then size the system so you buy the right unit and not more than you need.
  2. Placement and Planning - We walk through placement options and explain the work day by day.
  3. Permits and Inspection - We pull every permit and schedule the county inspection for you.
  4. Professional Installation - A licensed crew handles site prep, the gas connection, electrical wiring, and the automatic transfer switch. A typical install runs about a week, including inspection.
  5. Testing and Walkthrough - We run a full test, walk you through the controls, and confirm everything operates the way it should.

Brands We Install

We install Generac, Kohler, and Cummins air-cooled and liquid-cooled units. Generac makes up roughly 80% of what we install, and as a Power Pro Premier Dealer we keep Generac parts on hand for fast service.

Generator Service & Repair

Whether we installed your generator or not, our team services and repairs all major brands, including Generac, Kohler, and Cummins. From annual maintenance to emergency repair, we keep your system ready, with 24/7, 365-day service across the Charlotte area.

Frequently Asked Questions

About a week from start to finish, including the county inspection. The on-site work itself is usually one to two days.

No. We pull every permit and coordinate the county inspection for you as part of the installation.

We place your unit to meet Generac's clearance requirements, about 3 feet of space at the front and sides and 18 inches at the rear, along with local code, so there is safe access for service and good airflow. Improper clearance is a common cause of generator problems, so we get placement right from the start.

Generac home standby units come with a 5-year manufacturer's warranty, and extended coverage is available for 5, 7, or 10 years. As an authorized dealer, we perform the documented maintenance that keeps your warranty valid.

It depends on how much of your home you want to power. We run a load assessment during the in-home consultation and recommend an essential-circuit or whole-home system based on your needs.

No deposit is due until your generator is on site. The price we quote is the price you pay, and financing options are available.
