Your Generator Questions Answered

During the consultation our generator specialist will discuss your needs and priorities to recommend the right home standby generator option. We will assess your home’s electrical service, identify the ideal location, review fuel options (if necessary) and answer any questions you may have.

In the Charlotte Metro area a typical generator installation takes about a week. The electrical and gas are usually completed in 1–2 days. Inspection times can vary depending on the jurisdiction. Once inspections are completed we come out and perform the start up and demo the unit to make sure that you are comfortable with the system.

Once you approve your proposal, we handle the rest so you don’t have to worry about the details. We’ll get any required permits and coordinate with utility companies if necessary. Before installation day we’ll confirm the details and answer any final questions that you may have. One thing to keep in mind is that at Power Source we don’t require a deposit at contract signing for any of our in stock air cooled generators. You won’t pay a cent until the unit is delivered and set.

A good installation includes proper sizing, safe electrical and gas connections, code-compliant permitting, professional workmanship, and thorough testing before the job is complete.

The right generator size depends on what you want to power during an outage. Some homeowners want to keep only essential items running, while others prefer whole-home backup power. During your free in-home assessment, we’ll evaluate your home’s electrical usage, square footage, major appliances, HVAC systems, and any special power requirements. Based on that information, we’ll recommend a generator that’s properly sized for your needs—without overselling you on more power than you actually need.

Yes. Most standby generator installations require permits and inspections to ensure the electrical and gas work complies with local building codes. Power Source handles the entire permitting and inspection process on your behalf. We coordinate with the appropriate local authorities, schedule inspections, and make sure your installation meets all applicable codes before your generator is placed into service.

The cost of a whole-home standby generator depends on several factors, including the generator size, your home’s electrical system, fuel source, installation requirements, and site conditions. A manufacturer’s warranty covers defects in materials or workmanship if something fails due to a manufacturing issue during the warranty period. Routine maintenance, however, is the regular service your generator needs to keep it operating safely, efficiently, and reliably.

Just like a car needs oil changes, your standby generator needs scheduled maintenance to replace filters, inspect electrical connections, test the battery, check fluid levels, and ensure it’s ready to perform during a power outage. Keeping up with maintenance also helps maintain your manufacturer’s warranty coverage.

Our trained technicians can diagnose the issue, explain what’s causing it, and recommend the best solution to get your system back up and running. We also offer ongoing maintenance and responsive service to minimize downtime and help ensure your generator is ready whenever the next power outage occurs.

Yes. We offer financing options to help make a whole-home standby generator more affordable for many homeowners.
